I've been to folder options and selected 'view hidden files and folders', i've looked in Temp Int files and used the search bar on the start-up menu. I've been looking around for ways to fix this problem and not found one yet.
I have tried a number of things so far: - Created a new profile in Firefox, No change - Run Malwarebytes and removed infections, No change - Run Check Disk for errors, No change - Run Windows Update and installed everything, No change - Unistalled and reinstalled firefox, no change - Checked the permissions in McAfee Firewall I've also tried things in command promt and within the brower folders themselves, but can never find the folders people are talking about.
Another added problem is that 'about:config' won't launch in Firefox, so I can't fix it that way! Whats really annoying is that if you right-click on a picture in either browser and select 'save picture as', the pic will be saved onto the computer with no trouble!
I'm running Windows 7 bit, Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3. Many thanks. Posted 14 October - PM Where do you have the save to location set to? In IE it first downloads to a temp file, then once the file is completed it will then move it to where you save your downloads too. Your anti-virus will automatically scan every file you download at the end of the download sequence to make sure it is not malicious. McAfee is exceptionally obnoxious, and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if it was quarantining your downloads for no good reason.
Try disabling McAfee while downloading something small, and see what happens. Posted 15 October - PM Thanks for the replies. How do you disable McAfee? Less frustration and more confidence, solutions, answers, and tips in your inbox every week. Download right-click, Save-As Duration: — 4. It may still exist in other tools, however. N assumed it was win I have never had this issue myself. I usually end up having to clear out the Downloads folder myself, so I am not missing anything current that i may have downloaded.
You mention that the option is being removed in a future version. The option to cleanup the downloads folder or to NOT delete the downloads folder? BTW, I did have a subdirectory inside my downloads folder deleted by disk cleanup once. Lesson learned. Another option. This also applies if you are using a download manager.
Excellent suggestions. I downloaded the user manual for my new cell phone to the download folder. It was there for less than a week before it was gone. I found it in my setup folder where I keep the installation files for the apps on my computer.
Good to know even if it is thirty five years or so late. Maybe some of them are still on my computer and nobody knows where Microsoft put them. It will find ,as its name implies, Everything even deleted files. It has many other options for searching. Hope this will help. I never had any idea there was any danger. After reading this article, I emptied the Download folder into another folder.
Actually, I should take some time and move those files into more appropriate folders. Thanks for any ideas, Lena. This thread is locked. Method 1: Let's unhide the hidden folders and check. Click on view tab and under the option hidden files and folders choose Show hidden files, folders,or drive.
Click Apply and then Ok. Now check if you can see the Downloads folder. If it is listed, I suggest you to remove hidden attribute from the download folder. Right click on the folder. This behaviour seems to be a bit random in that it doesn't do it all the time and with all folders. I experimented with the caching settings on the server, initially thought this had solved the problem but no, it hasn't.
Thanks for update. According to your description, I suggest you boot your Windows 7 into Safe Mode with Networking to check the result. If this issue persists, please try to edit the following registry value in Windows 7 to check the result:.
Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Set the Value Data to 0. Tried those, unfortunately didn't resolve the issue. Looking at this a bit more, it seems to have something to do with the "owner" of the folder. In this setup, I have 3 shared folders, lets say they are Data1, Data2, and Data3. There are 3 user accounts on the W7 server.
MarkServer is the local administrator accont, then there are accounts called "Staff" and "Managers". The 3 shared folders are all at the same level, under a folder called DataMain. I originally had this folder shared, but removed the share for this then re-shared the 3 subfolders. Data3 is intended to only be accessible by managers. Now, I am creating the new subfolder under Data1 from an XP workstation which is logged to the server using the "Staff" user credentials. I note that when I do this, the new sub folder is owned by "Staff" and shared with "Managers".
This is the folder that disppears when you rename it. Existing folders, which are visible and accessible as expected on the XP workstations are owned by MarkServer, the local W7 Server administrator, as they were created on the server. So it seems that new folders are owned by the creator which I would expect but are not visible to that owner which I would not expect!
There is nothing else installed on it so it is a fairly clean install. I have used this kind of file sharing setup for many years without problems albeit with older OS on the server. So I'm finding it strange that this is an issue no-one else has encountered. Anyone else out there seen anything similar? I think I have something similar. I have a user that cannot see 2 files in one network share subdirectory.
When logged onto one machine, these files are missing, however, everything else in the directory is visible. One file is an. XLS file, the other a. For sanities sake, I removed any possible File Options involving hiding system files etc, and the. TMP appeared for about 30 seconds, then dissapeared. The problem is only it appears on one machine, if I get the user to log on elsewhere to another Win 7 box, she can see the folders. Permissions are correct and matching other users that have no issue seeing the file.
I am about to go through the process of giving myself rights to the share and testing her machine with my account I've tried to reproduce this on my network at home issue is in my office but I cant. The only difference is that I only have a 32bit W7 machine at home to use as a server. I'm suspecting Windows 7 x64, if only cos most of my other probloems lately have been down to that!!
